Netbooks, even tough most everyone has stopped calling them by that name, are generally smaller, easier to transport and made for checking your email, browsing the web, twitting or even conversing on your Facebook page.
Do not let their rather diminutive size scare you or cause you to lose interest, they have a lot of punch and can keep up with even some of the big boys when it comes to being online, emailing or rather simple computing tasks. If you are on the go, they are the perfect option for checking your mail while at the airport, or inputting information while on an aircraft 30,000 feet in the air or at poolside reading stats sent to you while on your sunny, summer holiday.
As with all of the other computerised wizardly in the electronic world of today, netbooks differ in specs and performance capabilities. Understanding what those different specs and performances are goes a long way in helping you decide what brand name and model is best suited for your needs.
Most weigh just over 1kg and have small screens, keyboards, finger pads and memories, hence the name NETbook limiting itself to use with only that media. With it being very similar to a laptop, the key features to a netbook are similar to that of a laptop – processor, screen, RAM, battery and touchpad.
But that is where the similarities with a laptop tend to end. They are usually quite small making them either a great asset or a dilemma hard to overcome. Those with big hands and thick fingers may find the keyboard just too much of an inconvenience.
Forget watching a DVD or even listening to a musical CD, there is usually no space for these drives and reliance on USB’s and external hard drives is many times needed. Especially if you are going to want to install a certain type of programme or back-up a great deal of data like videos, music, or photos.
Spec graphics cards are either not on a netbook and if they are, are very low-spec. Meaning if you want to use your netbook for gaming you may be disappointed by the outcome.
The Netbook is the ideal option for when you are on the fly and need something to answer and send mails, receive data or communicate with others, but any task that requires a great deal of speed involving a large amount of memory and graphics is just too complicated for the smaller sized mortar board of a netbook.
