Kinect is a hardware package for controlling the video game console Xbox 360, which has been sold since the beginning of November 2010. Kinect was developed by Microsoft, together with the company PrimeSense. Players can use it instead of using conventional gamepads controlling games only through body movements. Kinect was shown for the first time at the E3 gaming convention first June 2009 presented to the public under the code name Project Natal.
This new type of control is made possible by a combination of low-sensor camera, 3D microphone, colour camera and software. By body movements a game is controlled without the need for any traditional controllers. In the United States was the device was released on 4 November 2010, the release in Europe took place shortly afterwards on 10 November.
Microsoft Office is to develop more new interfaces between humans and computers.
Especially for the development of this movement control and ideas for implementing connections as envisaged by Johnny Chung Lee. He studied human-computer interfaces at Carnegie Mellon University and was known for his unusual projects like Wiimote controllers, game console Nintendo Wii.
