A new device that is part power supply and part beachwear allows users the chance to sunbathe and run a bunch of different portable devices. The iKini a swimsuit that is made of solar panels can charge a number of portable devices including a camera, iPod, MP3 player or any other small device.
New Yorker Andrew Schneider designed the swimsuit and it is made of 40 highly flexible photo-volcanic panels that are very thin and it takes more than 80 hours to make. A joke is what tempted him into making it in the first place.
It was the beginning of school and we were brainstorming around the table about ideas for sustainable products. He said he had nothing interesting so he leaned over to a friend and jokingly said he would make a bikini that would cool your beer while at the beach. Everyone had a laugh, but a few weeks afterwards he realized it was feasible from a technical standpoint.
It is completely safe and will not shock anyone wearing it. You can go for a swim as long as you make sure you dry off before plugging in. Presently it is only available for women and it sells for $1,500.
