Nikon’s D7000 digital single lens reflex camera may be a step higher than the 5000, but it is actually an upgraded D90. This is the very top of the line model for consumers, before you get into Nikon’s professional grade cameras.
DSLR cameras are generally considered professional, but in actuality there are three different grades of DSLR cameras. First, there are the starter grade DSLR cameras, which are for amateur photographers who want something with better quality pictures over a compact or subcompact camera (superzooms and point-and-shoot).
Next is the prosumer category. Amateurs in this category want more edge and quality and will spend more than those in the starter grade, but they are still unable or unwilling to spend the kind of money required for professional cameras.
Lastly, come the professional grade, which are manufactured by companies like Canon, Nikon, Leica, and Hasselblad, and cost thousands of dollars to own.
