Little kids are far handier with computer gadgets now than a couple of generations ago. The mouse is no problem, and neither are browsers or calling from mobile phones. When faced with concrete tasks, their skills were different. A mere 11% were able to tie their shoes.
Less than half could tell you their address, while a third were capable of writing both names. These are the results of a study done by the University of Southern California. The subjects included kids from the age of 10 months from 42 families.
The Daily Mail revealed that only a fraction of 2 out of 10 kids could swim without help, while 7 of the same 10 were quite at ease playing online games alone.
Also, the study disclosed that 23% of 2 to 5-year-olds possess the skills to place mobile calls and 25% can browse from site to site on the Net, without hesitations.66% could turn on a computer, more than 70% were able to use a mouse, and 1 out of 5 could get around inside the iPad or smartphone.
AVG, an internet security company, reported from a survey they conducted of 2,200 mothers across eleven different countries. They found that children of the UK were more adept Online, but experienced far fewer successes in the tangible life situations than did children of other countries.
