The Chinese network provider Huawei is about to introduce its latest smarphone Ideos X5 to the global market. Huawei believes that this could be a breakthrough in the highly contended market of smartphones.
In his webcast on Friday, Huawei Chief Marketing Officer, Victor Xu, announced the release of Ideos X5 next month in Hong Kong, New Zealand, and Singapore. The phone will arrive to the U.S market by mid-year. He also added that Huawei has received orders from telecom operators from the Middle East, South Africa, and Europe.
Powered by Android 2.2 Operating system, Ideos X5 boasts a 3.8 inch touch-screen and 5mp camera, which supports 720p HD video play back. The device is a big step up from its predecessor. X5’s price is going to be between $250 – $300, slightly dearer than its predecessor, the first Ideos smartphone.
The first Ideos smartphone from Huawei has sold more than 1 million handsets in the US, Huawei’s biggest market. Huawei marketed the phone as an affordable alternative to the expensive smartphones from other operators.
The telecommunication supplier is not new to the world of Android smartphones; it already had 10 smartphones in the markets and planning to launch 10 more this year. Their product range include the S7 tablet pc, which had been launched in the U.K, US, and Australia. Last year, Huawei sold more than 3 million Android smartphones.
