Microsoft has sold one million Kinect units for Xbox 360 in only 10 days. The company says it is on target to sell 5 million by year’s end. Microsoft is obviously delighted by the news and vows to keep on pace with its retailers so there will be no shortage of Kinect systems for anyone desirous of owning one.
Just before putting the new system on the market, Microsoft raised its prediction of end of year sales from 3 million units to 5 million units. That now looks like quite an achievable number.
The units have already hit North America and Europe and will be arriving in Japan and in Asia literally any day now. By Christmas the units will hit as many as 60,000 stores in about 38 countries and there will be a projected 17 games that can be played on Kinect for Xbox 360.
Stores were inundated with people queuing outside waiting their turn to get in and purchase the new product. Touted, as the most innovative feature to come along in gaming in years, the Kinect for Xbox 360 system uses, microphones, cameras, and sensors to respond to a player’s body movements rather than a wand or remote control.
It is the absolute latest in gaming for anyone wanting to stay on the edge of high tech.
The popularity of Kinect has proven that Microsoft has answered public desire for a hands-free operating system that mimics real game play in the convenience of a home atmosphere.
