A senior Apple executive left the company in response to a backlash of problems with the iPhone 4, which he was supposedly responsible for during developmental stages. Mark Papermaster, is the former Vice President for Mobile Devices of Apple and officially left the company on Saturday.
Papermaster took the position at Apple from IBM a mere 15 months ago but did not publicly comment on his swift and sudden departure.
Despite speculation that it was due to the problems associated with the iPhone 3 such as the colour limitations and reception problems, Papermaster was not directly involved in any of the promotions of for the mobile or even notified of the press conference held by Steve Jobs to address the problems.
Sources close to Apple painted a very different picture, stating that Papermaster had fallen out of favour with Jobs quite a few weeks ago and was simply told to move on in a matter unrelated to the actual performance of the iPhone4.
Papermaster was hired back when Jobs was in recovery after a liver transplants and many insiders think that once Jobs returned to his post the pair were not able to work together in an effective and cohesive manner.
Apple refused to comment on the matter although it did release that Bob Mansfield, the Apple Senior Vice President of computer engineering will be taking over the role of Papermaster.
