HTC is a purveyor of many fine Android handsets, with the HTC Gratia become another of the mid range options produced by this firm, following on from the HTC Hero, Legend and Wildfire. It will run Android 2.2 and it is being seen as a European edition of the HTC Aria which was available only on Asian markets.

The HTC Gratia definitely looks like a gorgeous piece of kit. With piano black and bright white editions it exposes touches of chrome and will almost certainly be a fingerprint magnet, which at this prince point is likely to make it one of the most aesthetically appealing handsets out there. Around the front is a 3.2 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 320×480 accompanied by some capacitive buttons and then a trackpad below in a setup which mirrors that of the HTC Desire.

The hardware of the HTC Gratia is very similar to that of the Legend. It has a 600MHz processor coupled with 384MB of RAM and a five megapixel camera mounted on the rear. All of this should work well together and the Android experience does not rely on a stunningly fast chip to keep it ticking over, particularly with HTC’s optimisations.

With Android 2.2 onboard the HTC Gratia should support several of Google’s latest innovations including Flash 10.1 compatibility, unlocking a world of online content from embedded YouTube videos to those annoying banner ads. Net connectivity should be solid thanks to onboard Wi-Fi while you will want to get it on a tariff that includes a monthly data allowance as 3G networking is supported. GPS and Bluetooth are added to the mix for a diversity of options which make this a versatile smartphone and particularly well placed to pique the bargain-hunters interest in this gradually swelling portion of the market.

HTC will have implemented its unique Sense user interface to supplement the basics offered by Android. As such you will be able to enjoy integrated social networking which pulls in your various feeds and makes them accessible via the Friend Stream. You should also get more customisable homescreens which can be seen simultaneously thanks to Leap View and enable improved multitasking.

The HTC Gratia ultimately falls somewhere between the Wildfire and HTC Desire HD, although it definitely shares more similarities with the former than the latter. Three colour schemes are set to arrive after the launch in November on a number HTC Gratia deals from UK network providers.
