Hewlett Packard purchased the fledgling Palm just over a year ago and now are ready to launch their first tablet device using the webOS, Palm’s operating system. HP should be triumphant in their release of their new TouchPad. Even with a much crowed tablet market the TouchPad has intuitive software and is very practical for the user.
As most tablets do TouchPad looks very similar to its competition with his shiny black sleek look with very few buttons dotting the frame. The screen is 9.7 inches diagonal and is the same resolution and size as the king of the hill iPad. The thickness of the TouchPad is greater than that of the iPad and it weighs more as well a hefty 1.5 pounds. Its smooth plastic and round edges give it a sleek and smooth look as well as making it a bit more slippery that most.
When it is turned on it as if you are looking at a webOS smartphone. This kind of software is perfect for a tablet. For instance applications appear as little cards that allow you to scroll through left to right and you can either tap them to make them larger or flick them so they close.
The latest version of webOS is installed in the TouchPad with features that allow you to grab photos from Facebook and put them in the photo library of the device. Also the “Touch to Share” allows you to share with some webOS smartphones content.
Like any new device the TouchPad has it downfalls. The engine seemed to stutter once in a while like live streaming would at times freeze. The chat feature for video conferencing is dismal compared to FaceTime from iPad.
