The Powermat wireless charger has now made it into the UK, but its delivery has raised a wide host of questions as to how valuable it really is, compared to other chargers that use wires.

The Powermat charger works by plugging into a main power supply, and then allowing users to place mobile devices on the mat for charging, without the use of wires via induction, as long as the Powermat is plugged in. Hence, there is still one wire required, although you do not have to have adaptors for each of your gadgets.

Although the device is aimed at providing users with convenience, as of yet there is still not a sure fire way to charge items with high power delivery although many vendors such as Philips, Samsung, and Sanyo have proposed a standard known as the Q1.

Despite this union, the Powermat takes on a new approach which has led to it being hailed as the beta version of the upcoming brands of wireless chargers.

The Palm Pre mobile has also introduced a new wireless charger as well as Witricity, which allows mobiles to charge from a few metres distance, without actually touching the gadget.
