Games – Gadgets – DVD – Plasma – HD – WIFI

The Wii is a television-based video game console, from the Japanese company Nintendo. The main feature is a new controller that is similar to conventional remote controls, but has built-in motion sensors. This registers the position and movement of the controller in the room and translates them into corresponding movements of characters or elements on the screen.

The users in conventional game systems used the buttons on the controller or analog sticks, so they could control the games by moving the controller itself. Now the game system of hardware and software measures the three-dimensional movements of the user. With over 25 million units sold, the Wii until the end of 2009m was more popular than their rival Xbox 360 and sold more than twice as many units as the simultaneously released PlayStation 3.
The dimensions of the console are 157 mm × 215.4 mm × 44 mm, much smaller than its competitors from Sony and Microsoft. You can, as the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, place the unit both vertically and horizontally.

“Wii Remote” with the Nunchuk Extension controller was introduced in September 2005 and is like a remote control, making it known as the Wiimote. Using two reference points in the sensor bar, which will be below prior to or placed on top of the TV, and an infrared camera that transmits to 4 infrared sources, on the front of the Wiimote, the position and location of the controller, respectively, relative to the screen. This makes it possible for game objects to be targeted directly on the screen. The precision is in part similar to a cursor graphical user interfaces.

Additionally, an acceleration sensor detects the movements and rotations of the controller and can be directly used for game control. In addition, various buttons and a directional pad are available.
Communication with the console is wireless via Bluetooth. The maximum distance is 10 meters. If the Wiimote is used to aim at the screen (menu navigation or gaming), the distance is reduced to a maximum of 3 meters so the movements can be detected by infrared. The distance from the sensor bar must be at least use the infrared connection, a maximum of 1 meter and 3 meters.
For additional mechanical feedback to the player (Rumble Pak) can create the controller vibration effects. Furthermore, the Wiimote has a built-in speakers. An internal memory lets you store user profiles. In addition to self-generated game avatars (called Mii) are stored, for example, the tennis player from home to bring friends and play with it there can be.
