Ninja Gaiden is a grand game and no doubt, a infuriating one. In certain aspects, it does improve upon the heart of Ninja Gaiden characteristics to almost hysterical effects. Just because the trailers focuses on that one specific village doesn’t mean that the whole game or even a majority of it takes place in that area. The game starts off with Col.Campbell calling up Solid Snake to give the disturbing message that Liquid Snake is still alive and running the dummy organization, Outer Heaven. The corporation oversees the working of private military organizations all over the globe. The PMC will pretty much be Liquid Snake’s own army and it’s them that you will be fighting for most parts of the game. However, the PMC will vary from place to place; the one in the Middle East will be called Praying Mantis while the one in South America will have a different badge and appearance. Intelligence indicates that Liquid Snake is operating from somewhere in the Middle East, so Snake is asked to make a contract hit on Liquid Snake. The villain we are talking about is actually Liquid Ocelot, i.e. Revolver Ocelot’s body but with Liquid Snake’s attached arm and consciousness. So the bad guy will look like Ocelot but it’s Liquid Snake all the way.

Snake’s first objective is to meet up with informants who have been keeping a track Liquid’s movements. The support character Otacon shows up via a codec transmission. The transmissions have come a long way from the small 2D heads in the first installment of the game. The newer codec shows Otacon sitting in room and you could move the camera around to get a better view. Another neat feature is that you can fast forward using the triangle button, and then let go off to allow the conversation resume spoken dialogue. The developers have confirmed that the lip sync in the game will be synced in the game rather than being tuned by hand. Looking back at the Prince of Persia trilogy which was a massive hit amongst gamers, the story was crafted in a way to interweave with that of Princess Farah. Unfortunately the characterization was such that she had no real effect on the final gameplay. For the new Prince of Persia game, Ubisoft has decided that they want a secondary character that is more integrated into the storyline. A character who was not only a formed a part of the storyline but also had a vital role to play in the gameplay. From these aspiration rose the character Elika, the female cohort for the Prince.

As was revealed earlier, the Prince gets lost in a fiery sandstorm only to find himself in a deserted but stunning oasis. His happiness is short-lived as an evil spirit by the name of Ahriman escapes from his prison and starts wrecking havoc amongst the people. In the oasis the prince meets Elika who belongs to the clan of Ahuras, the guardians of the prison which held Ahriman. Elika is determined to vanquish Ahriman back into the prison and decides to fight alongside the prison against their common enemy.

Elika fights by the Prince’s side for majority of the game, and she is fully AI controlled. She dons the role of an assistant and executes her role with elegance without ever getting in the way like conventional AI characters. For instance when the prince is shimmying along an edge Elika pulls up behind him. However, if the Prince suddenly decides to change direction he is going to run in to her right? Not a chance, the instant the Prince shifts his direction; Elika lets her hand off the ledge. The Prince holds her one arm and sling her behind him, this way the prince does not lose his momentum and she never gets in the way as well. In case she is unable to perform the acrobatic leaps of the Prince, she finds another way to reach the other side, though the demos haven’t featured an acrobatic combo the developers have assured that you will be able to team up together to perform some amazing acrobatics.

Elika is one real smart AI character; she never annoys you by getting in the way and also not takes any direct inconsequential action. Even though she is AI controlled, you can call her to your aid if you find the battle a little to hot to handle. Ubisoft has released a CG trailer which shows Elika teaming with the Prince to execute an aerial somersault throw. Elika has limited combat skills but is a powerfully trained in magic, she can even block a killing blow thereby saving the prince. She also assists the prince with puzzles however how this is going to work out is yet to be revealed. Elika also doubles up as your compass, if you were to get stuck somewhere in the wide expanse of the new Prince of Persia look no further than your sidekick for directions. It seems Ubisoft has closely studied the AI mistakes which other games have made and made a tremendous effort of not repeating them, if they can pull this one off it will be a game talked about for many years to come.

FaceBreaker is a part boxing, part Chris Farley slapstick and part wrestling game developed by EA. Unlike previous games from the EA stable such as Fight Night and Knockout Kings which had focused on strategy and mechanics of boxing this one is more concerned with the theatrical side of the sport. Facebreaker features 12 characters ranging from a tattooed up surfer guy to a crazy looking witch doctor. The game lets you use a face importing feature much like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08. The gameplay is fairly simple, once you are in the ring you will have two attacks, light and strong by which you can build up your facebreaker meter. Each of your successful punch would fill up the meter. The type of special attack which you are able to execute would depend on how full your meter is. The basic finisher is the bone breaker, next is the sky breaker, and then comes ground breaker. The Facebreaker is the final special attack which doubles up as a finishing move.

In order to win a match you will need to knock down your opponent three times or complete a facebreaker on him. The single-player game would be centered around “Brawl for it All” in which your character would have to fight through the rest in a ladder format. This mode features four belts with multiple matches for each belt. The difficulty selection determines from which position you start once you lose. The easier levels will have you fighting from the match you just lost while the harder levels would send you back to the beginning. At first impressions the game might seem like a mindless punchfest, thankfully it isn’t so. You are provided with some defensive abilities such as parries, blocks and dodges. Also every character would have the ability to render their opponent dizzy with a special move. The Voodoo guy for instance can fire a series of green skills which will stun you and the only way to recover is by punching yourself in the face, or of course let Voodoo do the honors.

Certain characters have special abilities like the kung-fu guy Steve throws smoke bombs into the ring and can disappear from one part of the ring to appear from another. It must be said that the sureshot way to win the game is to land a flurry of relentless punches. Once the facebreaker meter fills up, you can finish off the guy in a jiffy. The developers claim that the fishing moves are not all that easy to execute and will require some amount of skill on the part of the gamer. EA has no doubt spent very little time on the player details and the character creator in the game looks good for a laugh or two. FaceBreaker is the first game to be announced for the newly released EA Freestyle brand and looks to be a pacy and humorous game. The game is expected to be released during late fall this year.

This is the insanely hectic world of Order UP, an upcoming game on the Wii. The game is developed by SuperVillain Studios. The obvious comparison would be to the Cooking Mama series, but Order Up! manages to push the concept of virtual cooking to a whole new level. It’s not just about crafting meals; it’s about running a restaurant as a whole.

You don the role of an up coming chef in the game, who is basically trying to make his mark in the tiny island town of Port Abello. The primary aim of the game is to win the coveted title of “Fortified Chef” in a brutal cooking duel which takes place in a cruise ship docked in the island. However, the championship is unlocked only during the final stages of the game, and until then you will have to go through an uphill task of establishing your business. The game starts off with a tutorial based on a burger joint by the name of Burger Face. A skinny kid with a screechy voice is your boss at the burger joint, and he runs you through the basics of the game like making a burger. As to be expected with a Wii game, most of the controls are via the motions with the Wii Remote. For instance to peel lettuce, you’ll need to hold the head with the B button, and peel the leaves individually by making individual motions. To chop tomatoes you just need to make the chopping action with the Wimote. To cook fries, you’ll hold the basket with the B button; make a downward movement to dip the dries in grease and once done pull it up again to be served. The beef patty is a primary ingredient in burger, and you cook that by placing it on the grill and watching the heat meter. If you wait too long, you will overcook the meat; however, some customers do like their meat slightly overcooked which you will discover later in the game.

Once you are done with the tutorial, you will move into your own restaurant, a quaint and straightforward diner, Gravy Chug. The ultimate aim is to garner 20,000 gold coins or build the World Bank which assures an economic victory or entice 20 eminent people from history to your country which gives a cultural victory or construct multiple monuments to gain a different type of cultural victory. However, the swiftest and most satisfying one is to decimate all your foes from the face of the Earth and earn a domination victory.

The game’s design is such that it throws up an interesting twist of irony, like you could be at peace with a warlord like Genghis Khan but wage a war against Gandhi’s Indians. By building libraries you can quickly reach the modern age and go onto build more powerful and deadly war machines. As you go on researching mathematics, advanced flight and literacy you get access to powerful technology like the flying fortresses. As you grow, your government would change from authoritarian despotism to democracy. This means that the people’s power reigns supreme and you cannot just go to war as you please. No matter how much you respect democracy, you didn’t build the flying fortress just to admire it from distance. You have to revert back to despotism by claiming emancipation from the people. This can be one turbulent switch as the people will start revolting and usually results in anarchy. Once you convert back to despotism you gain free rights to carry on military endeavors. If you have paced your research well enough, your steel tanks would be up against some medieval horsemen and archers. After you have dispatched the enemy to oblivion the next step is to research nuclear power and atomic theory. Once you are done with the research you get the chance to decimate and permanently erase a city from the pages of history
