It’s that time of year we start reading the oh so predictable wave of articles that are about as unusual as seeing Easter eggs in the shops in January. We have the tales of unwanted presents, the tales of the bumper January sales, the tales of people stabbing others over the last pair of cut price trainers, and the obligatory articles that all start the same; ‘getting fit in the new year’.

As well as the articles there is the wave of new gadgets that promise the instant weight loss you have always dreamed of, and this year is no different. Step forward the aesthetically pleasing FitBit Ultra weight loss tracker, the wellness gizmo that has taken the US by storm.

The FitBit Ultra is a minute dongle shaped like a USB key and you clip it onto a necklace or belt or something of that kind. The dongle has been designed well, and is pretty sleek with a matt black finish and clip design. There is just one single button to skip through the hidden display, which then reveals the time, how many stairs you have climbed, how many steps you have taken, and the bit we all want, how many calories have been burned.

By holding in the button you an also log such activities as skiing or even sleeping. The FitBit Ultra uses a state of the art altimeter to track distance, steps, stairs climbed and sleep patterns, and the display gives feedback in real time. This altimeter technology works together with an accelerometer to track and differentiate movement, so it knows if you caught the lift or climbed the stairs.

FitBit Ultra has its own website at Fitbit.com where it has comparisons of climbing activities such as famous landmarks like Machu Picchu, the Eiffel Tower and the 389 steps of Big Ben. This gadget is great fun, and very useful, with an RRP of £79.99 it looks set to emulate the success it has achieved across the pond.

Customer service phone systems need to have advanced features built into them in order to accurately distribute the calls based on the actual volume of the calls and the needs of the callers. In order to make sure that your clients have an overall positive impression of your business by the time their call is completed you need to make sure that your calls are routed in an efficient and quick manner which is one reason that you may want to take a look at network based ACD phone systems for your company so that the actual process of being routed does not frustrate or anger them.

The main goal of all customer service departments is to serve the customer and ensure that by the time a customer ‘walks away’ they are satisfied with the help they received; therefore, you do not want to put them through the ringer as they are transferred around a phone network in search of someone that may be able to help them. No one likes to spend time on a call routing circuit, and there is little doubt that your customers will not like it as well, so having a service that routes customers exactly as needed is one great way to prevent this from occurring.

However, you do not have to worry about this when you use an ACD network because calls can be routed and sorted in many different ways, allowing for them to reach their expected destination in a quick and easy manner. Automatic call distribution is also sometimes defined as skill based routing given the fact that calls are routed based on judging the difficulty of a caller’s needs and the knowledge level of available agents to make the best fit that will result in smooth customer service operations.

It is easy to see how this type of distribution could be useful if you take a closer look at how routing the phone calls using ACD would occur. For instance, if you have a group of customer reps that are very experienced and knowledgeable when it comes to returns you would want them to automatically receive any phone calls that have to do with returns, but during busy times you need to have other forms of back up to help prevent long wait times. In this case, you would be able to efficiently use your staff to help round out all aspects of the call experience while also making sure that you are using your staff strengths correctly.

This is just one example of one skill, but with proper ACD set up every staff member will have their skills rated and are assigned an area of expertise that would judge how their phone calls are routed. This way you only have to use inexperienced staffers during peak times to help smooth wait times, but the rest of the time your customers get instant and the best service that your business is able to provide which is not such a bad deal.

The theft was reported in March by an Oakland interaction designer Joshua Kaufman. But not until Mr. Kaufman’s blog about the theft attracted some news media attention did the police act on Tuesday.

Charged with felony possession of stolen property was Muthanna Aldebashi, 27 a cab driver. An initial report was said to have been misfiled a police spokesman announced. He said he was happy to have received his laptop and that he did not have to watch someone else use it. On March 21 while he was not at home during the day a thief broke in through the window.

The crime was immediately reported to Oakland police and it was noted by the officer that took the report that it contained tracking software. Hidden, the software, supplies the computer’s location to the owner along with photos taken by an internal camera and shots of the screen display.

Immediately photos were being sent of a bearded man with shaggy long dark hair asleep on a couch, driving, and sitting shirtless in bed in front of the computer. The majority of the photos he said were quite boring with this guy just looking at the screen, watching YouTube videos in bed or sleeping. A photo was also taken of the suspect logging into his own email which information was used to lure the man into an arrest.

Researchers and medics have all agreed that smoking is seriously bad for your health. It can cause severe lung disorders and many of them can have serious consequences, and of Cancer can be fatal. According to the statistics, thousands of people across the world fall victim to the effects of smoking every year.

Smokers are aware of the health risks they are taking every time they light up, but such is the strength of the addiction that many find they just can’t quit. Those who do try suffer terrible withdrawal symptoms and do the only thing that they know will relieve them, they smoke a cigarette.

To help these and all the others who want to quit but can’t, there are now several electric cigarettes on the market designed to give fresh hope to those who want to kick the habit. Now this all sounds great but many don’t actually know what an electronic cigarette is. It is simply an electronic gadget that both looks and feels like the real thing, you even have the inhaling experience that many who have tried to quit and fail just can’t do without.

This is produced by small replaceable cartridges that are filled with small doses of nicotine along with propylene glycol liquid that is flavoured. A rechargeable battery powers the cigarette and when you inhale, a pneumatic airflow sensor will detect the airflow. A microprocessor activates the atomizer and this injects tiny droplets of the liquid into the air.

The crucial difference is that there are no harmful toxins such as tar, carbon monoxide or arsenic. Nothing actually burns and no carcinogens are released. An electric cigarette poses no health threats and those are seriously trying to give up smoking could greatly benefit from using one of these great gadgets.

Entitled ‘The T-Mobile’ parking ticket, this is an innovative commercial aimed at having some fun with the public, and they have revealed a teasing video to promote it. This video will be running until Friday when the next phase is revealed.

The premise is that T-Mobile will be turning a nasty surprise into a brilliant one for motorists across the UK. The tantalising video opens with a shot of some dreaded parking tickets, and then shows a man getting dressed in the uniform of a traffic warden. The words The T-Mobile Parking Ticket flash across the screen, followed by you’ll wish you got one.

You are then invited to tune into Channel 5 at 9.15 pm on Friday when all will be revealed. In a nod back to the old ‘candid camera’ type shows that enthralled us for years, fake parking tickets will be posted on the windscreens of dozens of cars, and the motorists reactions when they return to their vehicle to find the parking ticket in place are captured on film.

The tickets are of course fakes, and instead of being penalty notices they actually contain cash of any amount between £5 and £50. The ads, which have been created by Saatchi and Saatchi are to bring awareness to T-Mobile’s ‘You Fix’ price plan. This is a great plan which gives the user complete flexibility over a short term 12 month contract.

T-Mobile are confident that the features of You Fix are unique in the mobile phone market and these ads are set to make this plan even more popular. So don’t forget to tune in at 9.15pm on Friday night to channel 5.

He is under attack from both sides. The Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department have opened inquiries into Apple’s subscription service for the iPhone and iPad that was just restructured.

Any publishers selling their content from within the iPhone or iPad must pay Apple a 30% commission. Apple’s rules also forbid companies from providing links in their apps to their websites in order to have customers sign up there for better prices. Breaking the rules results in the publisher being banned from selling in the app store.

One federal official, speaking anonymously, told the Washington Post that Apple was not under formal investigation, but that the government was simply looking into it. He also indicated that the government takes interest in all commercial initiatives that have any bearing on the market.

In Europe there is concern and a watchful eye as well. The EU Commission is interested in the effects of Apple’s subscription program on publishers of all kinds of media. Even the EU Parliament had comments issued in its body concerning Apple’s practices, followed by the chief of antitrust reporting that they were very interested in Apple’s current decisions toward publishers.

A famous antitrust lawyer in Washington, speaking on terms of anonymity, since he could be called to participate in both inquiries and even litigation regarding Apple, indicated the federal authorities must mull over many aspects. “They will need to see whether Apple has any power in this market and if Apple has a majority share in any particular market, then whether or not Apple is taking advantage of this majority power to inhibit the progress of other companies,” he explained.

“Apple will have to face up to the fact that two departments of the federal government are serious about this, and consider how to change their program.”

When mobile gambling was first introduced a few years back, it was greatly hyped up but then proved complex to manufacture and then wasn’t widely accepted by the people it was designed for. At the moment many companies with gambling apps for mobiles have been making around 2% of their profits from them, but recently a few groups have been making as much as 10% on them. It’s predicted that sports betting will move up to 14% in the coming year and earn even more profit. Other mobile games such as lotteries and online bingo are set to do the same.

Paddy Power, Sportingbet, Bet365, SkyBet, Betfair, Bwin, Ladbrokes and Victor Chandler all have apps for gambling on the ipod, the ipad and the Android range and recently all these companies have seen an increase in the number of players that they’re getting and claim that as much as 10% of their profits are coming from these areas of betting and gambling on your mobile phone.

The growth of smart phones and mobile internet has been credited for this rise because now people are more confident than ever when it comes to using their mobile phone to do things, and many people access the internet via it instantly. Smartphones and the ease of use when it comes to application using has given a big rise and now it’s easier than ever for companies to create and release apps onto these platforms and download it onto an easy to use touch screen. 20 apps are sold by apple every second and soon it’s hoped that gambling apps will be a major part of it.

However, with the older clientele there is still a bit of a technology gap with some of the more seasoned betters saying they still prefer telebetting over the phone and will probably never use the internet or phones for it.

It filled the gap between the laptop and the mobile phone, offering a more portable multimedia-consumption device. In January, Steve Jobs’s official unveiling of the device ended a yearlong of speculations.

An arguably trickier job, however, was bringing the Beatles music to iTunes. Apple Inc had a history of conflict with Apple Corps, the Beatles recording company. Although the court case had long been settled, the Beatles music remained out of the reach of all music download services until finally, Jobs managed to strike a deal that grants Apple exclusives online rights on the Beatles music until sometime in 2011.

Apple did not have it all their way this year. The organization had to face public embracement when one of their engineers forgot his then prototype iPhone 4 in a Silicon Valley Bar. Subsequently sold to a gadget blog, photographs of the device flooded the internet, raising question about checkbook journalism; in addition to a police investigation as Apple argued the case that the phone had been stolen.

The embarrassment didn’t stop there for Apple and the iPhone 4; The device had a notable defect: when held in a certain way it loses all reception. Facing to the flood of complaints, Steve Jobs held a press conference and offered free cases, which mitigate the issue, for all iPhone 4 users. Surprisingly the problem had little effect on the device sales.

Defusing one dispute and firing another, Jobs stirred another battle, this time against Adobe, when he launched insensitive criticism against Adobe’s Flash technology in April.

Having a really good refrigerator is an absolute must for most modern households. However, finding the right one for your needs can be a minefield. It is not a cheap purchase, and once bought, the chances are you will expect to live with it for many years to come.

So, before you rush out and buy one take some time to research the different models and the various alternative extra features that are now available. Ask yourself: ‘do the kids often leave the fridge door open?’. If the answer is ‘yes’ then you might want to consider a model that incorporates a door alarm. Do the household like lots of ice in their drinks? Then take a look at the many American style refrigerators that have a built in ice maker and dispenser. Having a whiteboard door surface could be a boon in letting the household’s shopper know that more milk or juice are needed!

Energy consumption is also an important topic to consider. Huge advances have been made in recent years in developing more environmentally-friendly compressors and better insulated cabinets. There are new models being developed that run on solar power – a huge leap forward in the battle to reduce energy consumption and consumers’ fuel bills.

It is all too easy, when you need a new good refrigerator in a hurry to rush into the nearest Domestic Appliance store and buy one. But investigating the various gadgets available and looking at a wide variety of models will definitely pay off in the end.
