Google TV hopes to provide a service to viewers in the United Kingdom shortly.

This service has already started in the United States and when first introduced, there were fears Google was out to compete with normal TV but this is not the case. Google TV gives the viewer the ability to utilise a number of functions on a TV set such as internet browsing, apps as well as the standard search facility. The viewer is able to use an Android mobile as the control remote for the TV.

Chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt, expects to launch Google TV in Europe in early 2012 and the United Kingdom is high up on the list for installation. Announcing this at the 2011 Edinburgh TV Festival, Schmidt said that Google will not be developing the usual TV shows and series but will in fact act as a support to the whole TV industry.

Schmidt has stated that to invest in TV subject matter is contrary to their strategy as Google is solely a technology company. They have neither the knowledge nor the desire to produce normal TV matter and any show produced by Google personnel would leave the viewers watching mediocre Sci-Fi.

The announcement of Google TV was made at the 2010 Google I/O Conference. TV sets with the built in platform first appeared in late 2010. Manufacturers of the sets up to now include Sony and Logitech.

Free to enter, the giveaway includes hundreds of software titles across music, photo & video, office utilities, creative & design, security and parental control. With leading software from the top PC and Mac brands – including ABBYY, Magix, Nero, Paragon, eJay, Net Nanny, Belight, NetObjects, Vertus, AMG, SPAMFighter, Large Software, Mariner and IOLO – it promises to be the best ever.

Last year Downloadbuyer.com started with £3,000 of prizes and then increased the value to around £6,000. This year it’s starting at £5,000, so who knows where it will end up!

It’s a Green Christmas…

With more people realising the benefits of downloading software rather than buying traditional boxed products – it may not be a white Christmas, but it could be a ‘green’ Christmas. It’s not just the convenience, immediacy (no more waiting), and excellent prices, it’s also about choosing to be a more eco-friendly consumer – with zero packaging, transport and storage costs, downloading is almost 90% more carbon efficient and thus far less damaging to the planet.

Jon Silvera, MD at DownloadBuyer.com says: “We’ve seen a huge growth in demand for download products, and to celebrate we’re giving away software worth over £5,000. It’s not just the 12 days of Christmas, its all 25 with DownloadBuyer.com. We have a number of leading software titles to win – and if its anything like last year consumers can expect the prize value to increase as more vendors get onboard.”

The prize giveaways take place every day from 1st-25th December 2010. Entrants must enter every day if they want to stand a chance of winning every day. It only takes a few seconds. No address information is requested as all prizes are issued via email in download format. Full terms and conditions are available on the entry page.

For a chance to win, simply enter the £5,000 Downloadbuyer.com Advent Calendar software giveaway at http://www.downloadbuyer.com/advent

It is believed that only the high-end iPads will be offered. This makes sense, because these iPads will be geared to use the 3G service provided by Orange. Lots of companies offer subsidized phone prices in exchange for network services, but this will be the first time one has offered a tablet like iPad.

The plan sounds, so far, like a win for Orange and a win for Apple. The iPad has reported stagnant sales because of the high cost of the product. With this match between equipment and provider, Apple will be able to sell more of its iPad units and the growing number of applications that go with them.

Meanwhile, Orange will benefit from an increase in subscribers driven by the popularity of the Apple tablet. If the offer is attractive enough, customers will win as well by being able to afford that iPad they have wanted for so long.

Even better, you do not have to own a Sony kit to trade it in and the item you are trading does not have to work, although you may get a better discount that way. The discount size is based on how much the product you trade in was worth when you purchased it, and the amount you save is based on the retail price. In addition to getting a bargain on your purchase since you are buying the item in the shop you get to take home your new shiny gadget instantly.

The offer began officially on April 29th and will continue thru July 11th for those that are more tech savvy than football savvy. Trade-ins will be accepted at Comet, John Lewis, Curry’s, Sony Centres, Tesco Extra, and other Sony approved retailers.

The retailers are responsible for disposing of each gadget they receive, which depending on their condition, may mean recycled or resold if it’s in reasonable shape.

A few examples of potential savings is £15-25 off a Walkman, £30-50 off Blu-ray and DVD players, £15-30 off Cybershot cameras, and £30-50 off of home cinema electronics.

For those of a certain age, stereoscopic 3D gaming is nothing new. Sega were the first company to attempt 3D gaming with their Master System and came with a pair of very dodgy 3D glasses that had limited success. Nintendo followed suit with their effort of 3D gaming with the rather unsuccessful Virtual Boy which came with 3D goggles that didn’t help enhance the 3D gaming experience one bit.

Even after these attempts of 3D gaming, there is still a sense that now is the first time 3D gaming has really come into its own. The equipment we’re seeing come out now is fantastic and incredibly impressive, especially compared to those that dared show their faces in the early 80s. People’s expectations have risen nowadays and they now know exactly what they want from their 3D tech.

Another reason for these increased expectations is that there is more of a hardcore games market around at the moment and they’re becoming more and more interested in HD graphics and the new tech that‘s coming out now. One possible answer for why there is this so much interest in the 3D gaming world now is due to the publicity that 3D work is getting with the film industry’s renewed interest in stereoscopic film.

However, it’s probably more likely that this new found passion is because the technology has finally started to take off; people can now go to their local cinema and watch a 3D film that really drags them into the film they’re watching, without the need for the flimsy red and green eyewear. To prove even more that the 3D market is starting to make it, true gaming fans are now able to enjoy 3D gaming on their home PCs and laptops with the NVIDIA’s 3D Vision gaming system.

NVIDIA’s 3D Vision is described by the company as; “A combination of high-tech wireless glasses and advanced software, 3D Vision automatically transforms hundreds of PC games into full stereoscopic 3D. In addition, view movies and digital photographs in eye popping 3D.” It also now supports full HD 1080p.

The only issue with this new gaming system, however, is that you will need a display that is capable of operating at a 120Hz refresh rate, and the problem is that there are very few TVs available that can manage this. Not many of the TVs out there capable of this have much bigger than a 22in panel or more than a 1,680 x 1,050 resolution, and most also require a dual-link DVI cable to enable the 120 Hz refresh rate to work. NVIDIA does include all of the necessary bits and pieces needed to make the 3D capabilities look great.

If you are tempted by this new fantastic 3D technology then the best thing to do is to compare prices as it can be very expensive with it being so new and innovative. Always remember to check out the moneysupermarket.com voucher channel as there are new money saving vouchers being uploaded daily so it’s one of the best places for you to find great deals on all of your gaming needs.

A gaming article brought to you by the Vouchers team at moneysupermarket.com.

Everyone loves gadgets don’t they. They save us so much time and effort and many of them are quite funky and look impressive too. They make great gifts as well. The biggest problem with gadgets is where to buy them for a reasonable price! For the most part, buying them online makes more sense than buying them in the high street.

There are various reasons for this; firstly there are far more gadgets available than can ever be displayed in any high street store, space in these stores is limited and you just can’t cater for every taste that’s going where as online of course there just isn’t the space issue, so the online stores can display their whole catalogue of goodies for you. Next of course is the ease of shopping online v traipsing up the high street hunting for something to suit you. It’s tiring and cold, so it’s just much easier to stay home make a coffee and sit in front of the good old pc to do your shopping isn’t it. The third reason is the price. High street stores have big overheads, online stores generally don’t which is why they can charge less for their items and offer better discounts and offers to their customers.

Both Currys and Maplins have stores on the high street and online stores and are good examples of what I’m talking about. Their high street stores can only display a limited amount of the gadgetry that they carry, whereas their online store can display every single item on their books. Both these stores also like to encourage their customers to shop online with them by offering good discounts and offers using sites such as Discount Tart. On here you can find codes listed which will give you savings in these (and many other) stores online. From things such as free delivery codes to Currys discounts when you spend x amount or buy a particular product. These codes can help reduce the cost of your gadget even more meaning that you either save money or can afford an extra gadget or two instead.

Mini RC helicopters have taken the gadgets world by storm over recent years, the technology involved makes them extremely easy to fly and you can get the knack of them within a few flights. Now this is great if you are a beginner pilot and you just entering the world of RC helicopters but what if you are looking for something with a bit more grunt and for something that is seriously challenging?

Well the Bladez 3D Outdoor Mini Helicopter may just be the end of your search. With more advanced controls, precision and power it’s perfect for intermediate and advanced RC Helicopter pilots. The 3 channel proportional system provides a full 360° directional movement meaning you can make it go in any direction you like, even backwards. The intelligent RC system not only provides smooth hover and control to pull off great manoeuvres it also has the ability to lock out interfering radio systems from other RC users.

The Bladez 3D is very robust making it extremely suitable for outdoor flying, although for indoor flying too you really do need some space for its capabilities. The long life rechargeable battery requires a 30 minute charge which in turn provides an 8 minute flying time, with a built-in energy saving automatic cut off switch you are sure to get the most of that.
