Psykopaint is a cloud-based software that allows you to create amazing artwork from photos. Goes V1.0

Most photo editing software is based on filters, but Psykopaint is completely different. It is unique in that is samples the colours of the original image to create it rather than to modify it. Psykopaint also offers a whole new alternative to existing image manipulation techniques, and can also be considered as the missing link between paint software such as Corel Painter and the photo editing software such as PhotoShop.

This software is available free of charge and can be downloaded straight into your browser. There is no sign up needed and it is also available in the Google Chrome Web store. Psykopaint is now out of beta and is offering the possibility of ordering prints on canvas.

This is done directly from the software, and will be available initially in France, Germany, Spain, The UK and Italy. Later in the year it will reach the US and the rest of the world. Although the software will have premium membership, the advanced functions will stay free of charge until July.

An offline desktop version of Psykopaint is now in development, with support for pen tablets and versions for the Android and iPad tablets. Psykopaint currently has approximately 20,000 visit a day.

New Features roundup:

Print your work on a real canvas.
New realistic painting algorithm.
Simple interface
Comes localised in French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian and Polish.
Public and Personnal galleries
Save project files
Crowdsourced photo samples

Irrespective of your life style, whether you are a home or an outdoorsy person, the computer and the internet are undoubtedly an integral part of your life. Imagine how you would feel if you could no longer use your computer or all your files got erased or destroyed: photos, work, videos, music, the lot!

As far as computer protection is concerned, there is a very small difference between the harm that can be caused from a virus, a worm or a Trojan horse. Above all, you need to remember that the fault is not the malware’s for managing to enter your system or your computer’s for allowing it, but yours. It is user neglect and carelessness that put a computer at risk. Of course, 100% protection is not possible but there are simple steps you can follow if you want to maximize your protection.

Below find our 10 golden rules to help you remain protected from all potential malware.

Always Update your Antivirus software

Do not open email attachments from unknown sources

Do not download any files from unknown sources

Limit the number of users that have access to your computer

Install all the new versions of your Anti-Virus software

Perform a virus scan on every CD, DVD, memory stick, Bluetooth file before you download them on your computer

Try and even check software that come from reliable and official sources, they can also be infected

Use a combination of two or three Anti-Virus software to stay on the safe side

Have a start-up disc that is completely virus-free and keep it safe for emergencies

Back up all your files as often as possible and look for free antivirus software online.

And above all, if it happens to you, don’t panic!

In most cases where files have been damaged considerably, this was not caused by the virus itself but by a panic-stricken user who -not knowing what to do- began to randomly select OK, Run and Cancel options on various pop-ups and to perform arbitrary actions. If you suspect or you know that you have been infected, call a technician for help, don’t chance it!

Make sure you have the right virus protection.

Related posts:

DownloadBuyer.com had announced its massive ‘green’ Advent Calendar competition for December 2010 – the software download superstore is giving away prizes totalling £5,000 over 25 days.

Free to enter, the giveaway includes hundreds of software titles across music, photo & video, office utilities, creative & design, security and parental control. With leading software from the top PC and Mac brands – including ABBYY, Magix, Nero, Paragon, eJay, Net Nanny, Belight, NetObjects, Vertus, AMG, SPAMFighter, Large Software, Mariner and IOLO – it promises to be the best ever.

There are no strings, a simple entry to the draw qualifies you for that day – each day you enter is another chance to win. Products are worth anything from £14 to around £150 and with multiple prizes being given out every day you stand a great chance of winning.

Last year Downloadbuyer.com started with £3,000 of prizes and then increased the value to around £6,000. This year it’s starting at £5,000, so who knows where it will end up!

It’s a Green Christmas…

With more people realising the benefits of downloading software rather than buying traditional boxed products – it may not be a white Christmas, but it could be a ‘green’ Christmas. It’s not just the convenience, immediacy (no more waiting), and excellent prices, it’s also about choosing to be a more eco-friendly consumer – with zero packaging, transport and storage costs, downloading is almost 90% more carbon efficient and thus far less damaging to the planet.

Jon Silvera, MD at DownloadBuyer.com says: “We’ve seen a huge growth in demand for download products, and to celebrate we’re giving away software worth over £5,000. It’s not just the 12 days of Christmas, its all 25 with DownloadBuyer.com. We have a number of leading software titles to win – and if its anything like last year consumers can expect the prize value to increase as more vendors get onboard.”

The prize giveaways take place every day from 1st-25th December 2010. Entrants must enter every day if they want to stand a chance of winning every day. It only takes a few seconds. No address information is requested as all prizes are issued via email in download format. Full terms and conditions are available on the entry page.

For a chance to win, simply enter the £5,000 Downloadbuyer.com Advent Calendar software giveaway at http://www.downloadbuyer.com/advent

This is the payment of the future, experts agree, and there is no coin, currency, or plastic involved. The components used are a smartphone camera, Twitter, PayPal and QR codes.

To make it all work, you scan the barcode (QR) with your smartphone camera and the vending machine goes into action, it dispenses, in this case a gumball, and you receive a Twitter notification that a PayPal payment has been made.

PayPal Labs are also working on a retail instant payment system that would sort of be like a cash register for paying without cash.

All you have to do to think of the possible applications are consider places where you don’t like to be bothered for cash, like parking decks, gas stations, toll booths, grocery stores, and public transportation.

Is this as far-fetched as the paperless society? No one knows for sure, but the applications are possible and the processes are here.

Hey, do you remember life before the bar code?

Today’s phones have a dubious call quality, but a high functionality, all things that play right into the hands of Microsoft who are not so strong on the standard communications end, but can certainly compete on computer tech and function. This is a stronger market for Microsoft than the one back in 2006 when very few people bought their power sucking mobile devices.

Their immediate competitors in the struggle over OEMs and developers are familiar rival Symbian. Only Symbian is no longer the future for mobile phone manufacturers. They are barely a roadmap for their one remaining sponsor. By taking WP7 to market now, Windows has grabbed the baton from Nokia who won’t be ready with their reconfigured Symbian 4 for another year.

Once upon a time, the battle between Microsoft and Symbian was what really mattered; now the two fight each other simply for relevance in the market. No one is more keenly aware of this than Microsoft after loosing more share of the market than anyone in the last couple of years.

The one advantage that Microsoft and Symbian have is that they are not Google or Apple. For these two are making operators nervous. In France the three top operators recently got together to talk about creating an OS of their own in response to being reduced to bit carriers for Apple and Google.

Facebook and cyber social networking sites generally are ever becoming more popular as a way of staying in touch with what your friends are doing, arranging evenings out, and generally chatting, but be warned, here too the ominous computer virus can strike!

Ankit Fadia a renowned ethical hacker and cyber expert has recently warned that with just one wrong click within Facebook, you could be downloading a virus to your computer, instead of looking at someone’s photos, a funny message or something else equally innocuous.

The latest trend of infiltrating computers, it seems, will now be through Facebook. It would also appear that this method began a few months ago, and has been on the increase ever since. This of course in turn means that the number of people whose systems are infected this way is likely to rise.

With one single click, all your contacts will receive a message from your facebook account, your system is infected, and the virus is on its way elsewhere. It all starts with an anonymous e-mail through the Facebook system. If this mail is clicked on, in any Facebook account, a pop up box appears asking permission to download with the options ‘yes’ and ‘no’. If the person clicks yes to this, then all the friends that they have listed on their account will receive the same message while at the same time, the download takes place.

Although this basic passing on of a message like this might seem harmless enough, what it does, is to allow the virus to infiltrate your computer and that of any one or more of your contacts who also click ‘yes’. The download is a trojan virus, and, once a trojan is installed in the computer, the access way is open for cyber criminals to get in there, access your system and hack your passwords, banking, personal details and anything else that you do on your computer.

Older methods of getting viruses onto computers via spam e-mails are still out there, and still need to be watched for, but with social networking becoming more popular with people, the cyber criminals are following suit and utilising this nice easy method of infiltrating computers.

There is a very simple way to avoid getting a virus through Facebook however. So what is this simple solution? Never ever click on the ‘yes’ button to download anything, and never click on any other anonymous messages either. The virus cannot transfer from one system to another without a point of access, and it is the mistake of clicking ‘yes’ which gives it this point of access.

Surfing online can be a great deal of fun and a great way to conduct business, but surfing online also comes with a great deal of danger since many online fraudsters consider your computer open prey, in the same manner a burglar sees an open window as an invitation..

However, instead of leaving the window wide open for easy entry, you can protect yourself with the right antivirus suite, such as the BullGuard Internet Security 9.0 suite, which is built to protect against viruses, malware, Trojans, and plenty of other online risks, while also offering backup services for all the media files on your computer.

It is the combination of the backup service and antivirus protection that makes the BullGuard Internet Security Package such a great deal, because this combination offers you full protection against all of the threats that exist online, and in the case of a new threat, complete protection so that your data will always be secure.

The backup service also offers you protection from technical problems that can face a computer user at anytime, such as a crashed hard drive or an overheated fan that can crash a system in less than five minutes. These threats are no longer a concern if you can rest assured your data is backed up in full on a regular basis.

Among the key features of the Bullguard Internet Security Package is full protection against Trojans’, spyware, and a firewall that will keep hackers and intruders out of your computer. This helps protect you not only from identity theft and other types of online fraud, but it also guarantees that you will not ever experience how it feels to have your computer remotely taken out of your control.

In addition, the antivirus software reaches deep into your online transactions to protect you from all emails and phishing spam mails that may otherwise deftly trick you into revealing sensitive information.

As if the spam filters, back-up, and full antivirus protection is not already a winning combination, the Bullguard Internet Security Package is able to back up its claims by offering around the clock 24.7 support in English.

So you can always reach a support agent for aid even if a problem arises at an inconvenient time. However, with the simple installation and user friendly interface most users will find the program is so easy that once installed they can quietly continue their browsing experience without fear of problems or attacks ever again.

BullGuard Internet Security 9.0 can be downloaded here – http://www.bullguard.com/nl/why/bullguard-internet-security.aspx
