The first tablet device by Apple came on sale in 2010 and it is expected that the growth of tablet computers is going to continue, at least according to the finance company Deloitte.

The head of Deloitte Technology is Jolyon Barker who has commented, “Since the tablet market first launched in 2010 there has been an explosion in interest that shows little sign of slowing. It is expected that this year around 5 million tablet devices are going to be sold to people who already have at least one other tablet device.

This is going to generate over £1 billion for technology businesses. Tablet devices are penetrating the market faster than any other device in history and it seems this is set to continue.” Tablet models are being released this year by such big names as Asus, Samsung and Sony and they are all hoping to take some of the market share away from the iPad by Apple.

Retailers, network operators and those creating content for tablet devices are expecting the fact that people might own more than one tablet device is a complicating factor in the market. Deloitte also predict that the number of applications available for these devices will dramatically increase this year.

There was so much disappointment with the lack of a iPhone 5 and the coming of the updated iPhone 4s, that many people just shot from the hip and labelled the device a failure. However, as the last month of iPhone 4S contract sales have shown, the phone is anything but.

As Mark Hirst, technology expert and Managing Director of UK comparison site Best mobile Contracts has said “The introduction of dual core processing and improved graphics helps Apple stay on top of its game. New developments such as iCloud, Siri and its new iOS 5 ensure that the iPhone 4S remains one of the leading handsets in the smartphone arena.”

However, why did we get an iPhone 4S and not an iPhone 5?

Well looking at the issues at hand, the sad departure of Steve Jobs from this world may be a reason. The lack of a leading light and the role of Tim Cook, which left other departments short would have left Apple in a tight place for man power and so there was a lack of time to create and iPhone 5. Apple needed to release something for Christmas and it had to be faultless and so an iPhone 4S was the best available option.

Apple is also having a number of problems with Samsung, who supplies the company with a wide array of its components. Apple and Samsung have been at legal loggerheads over patents recently and there are rumors that Samsung isn’t offering the American company the service it requires because of this. This may have limited components and also may be part of the issue that Apple is looking for a new partner to help with the big changes needed for its new iPhone 5. All of this may have prevented the production of the phone as planned.

Components may have also been in short supply because of the Tsunami in the east of Asia. This would have obviously slowed down the production of parts for the iPhone and pushed its creation back by a few months, such things may have affected the device.

Perhaps there was never meant to be an iPhone 5. We already had an updated iPhone 3GS before we had an iPhone 4, so why not an iPhone 4S before we get an iPhone 5? It makes complete sense when you think about it – so maybe the iPhone 5 was just a figment of our over expectant imaginations. It doesn’t matter too much as the new iPhone 4S does much of what we expected from the potential iPhone 5 anyway. It has the faster processor, improved interface and new features like iMessage and Siri. All that has not been present is a larger screen – and as many iPhone users will tell you, a larger screen is not really wanted.

For those air passengers that feel trapped in a small cabin of an aircraft with very little natural light may see light at the end of the tunnel as aviation designers unveiled in London a futuristic plane by Airbus that had transparent walls which may well be the way people travel in about 40 to 50 years. The plane would have an intelligent cabin and a cabin wall membrane along with interactive games.

Zones would replace the different seating classes, with the relaxation zone up front, a work zone in back and for socializing a fully stocked bar. Everything on the passenger’s sides and directly in front of them would be visible so like earphones are handed out today there may be a need to hand out blinders in the future.

According to the light conditions that walls of the aircraft change and there will be pop-up holographs for game displays. There is even thought that will all the new technology passengers may even be able to read a bedtime story to their children at home.

Much of the technology is already in existence with head-ups displays and moulding seats but how the transparent plant based skin wall of the blame will be made remains shrouded in mystery. The concept cabin would be bionic in nature and mimic the efficiency of a bird bone says Airbus. There are even thoughts that virtual golf or interactive conferences will be enjoyed by the passengers that fly mid-century.

In the interactive area there will be virtual pop us taking the passenger to the scene they want to be part of and virtual changing of rooms to bolographic projections. The futuristic cabin follows the concept plan that was unveiled by Airbus last year that had incredible amounts of technologies to help with emissions, fuel burn, noise and waste.

Experts are predicting that tailor-made mobile marketing will become the future of advertising, with over 40 per cent of adults now using the Internet, e-mail or instant messaging services on their mobile phones; a number that is rapidly increasing as technology advances.

Mobile marketing is a relatively new form of advertising being used by companies looking to take advantage of the live and interactive mobile phone Internet revolution. Mobile Internet is now among the preferred methods of communication between people of all ages, and companies are beginning to realise the service’s potential for advertising, promotion and publicity.

The Mobile Marketing Association, which was founded in 2002 as a response to the mobile marketing boom, defines the concept as “a set of practices that enables organisations to communicate and engage with their audience in an interactive and relevant manner through any mobile device or network.”

The emergence of affordable smartphones on the high street has led to an increased awareness and usage of mobile advertising. Phone companies offering unlimited access to the Internet for a set monthly price have also aided the developing business model and have played a major part in the emergence of mobile marketing; businesses increasingly have a ready-made audience that they can advertise their products to and interact with on a more personalised basis.

Mobile marketing is particularly prevalent on the iPhone. According to Apple, iPhone advertising, combined with adverts on the iPod Touch, represent nearly half of mobile advertising spending in the US. Indeed, it’s an advertising platform that continues to expand at a fast pace. Despite the recession it almost doubled its market value with a 99.2 per cent increase last year. The growth rate of the mobile Internet market is even more phenomenal when you consider it was relatively unheard of in the UK as little as five years ago. As mobile technology continues to develop and advance, mobile marketing is likely to become an integral part of most promotional campaigns by global franchises by 2011.

Just as the use of advertising on billboards exploded a century ago and the use of television adverts became popular five decades ago, mobile marketing is making huge strides in attempting to become the next major marketing commodity with the power to serve a global audience. People are regularly accessing the Internet on their mobile phone around the clock and while on the move, something which has seen mobile advertising become increasingly valuable to businesses. Instant feedback and an active community are invaluable commodities for clients looking to increase their turnover, something which you do not receive from TV or other forms of adverts.

Today, nearly everyone has a mobile phone and it serves as a vital supply of information for a wide variety of individuals, which only highlights the potential of smartphone and iPhone advertising. Eighty-five percent of people in Japan are now using their phone to access the Internet, a trend which is set to follow in Europe. The potential and exposure for mobile advertising in this environment is enormous. There is an incredibly high demand from people who want the latest news and information at their finger tips and mobile marketing is in the perfect position to take advantage of this.

As well as the Internet, mobile marketing also incorporates SMS, bluetooth and infrared. It is a fast and immediate way of distributing advertisements to a network of people and relatively easy way to promote your brand.

Mobile marketing first exploded into life with the increased usage of SMS at the start of the new millennium. SMS is currently the most popular branch of the mobile marketing industry with millions of adverts being sent by companies to mobile phones every month. Customers have this information stored on their phone wherever they go, allowing them to check the information whenever they wish to do so; unlike a billboard, where a product is visible for a few seconds and then gone.

Targeting consumers who use the Internet on their mobile does offer the biggest potential for the growth of mobile advertising. The Internet is used by a wide range of people searching for the latest products and this is where mobile marketing can be used to its full effect. Mobile advertising is current, relevant and easily updatable and will soon be an integral part of any marketing campaign. The majority of people are now within reach of their mobile phone throughout the day, meaning your product is always just a few clicks away from a potential new customer.

Search engines such as Yahoo! and Google are already selling their mobile advertising space and leading companies are now beginning to realise the benefits of this service. Mobile marketing cannot be ignored with the amount of people now connecting to the Internet on a mobile device threatening to surpass people connecting from a home computer. Intriguingly, the idea of mobile marketing based on your location is one of the more radical proposals. This would see a GPS system pick up your location and send you personalised advertisements base on your search habits. Sending you a voucher for a local restaurant depending on your location is one example.

Mobile marketing is also cost effective for small businesses looking to increase their profits and brand appeal. This form of promotion allows you to target a specific audience based on age, sex and location, allowing your company to reach the customers you want to contact. Promotion campaigns, subscriptions and two-way communication could also help you to build brand awareness without having to spend a fortune.

It is easy to see why a personalised, switched-on audience appeals to companies that are looking to increase their customer base and reach a wider audience through cutting edge technology available at a reasonable price. With mobile phones set to become the main gateway to the Internet in the future, it seems mobile marketing is set to change the face of advertising forever.

Google’s chief executive Eric Schmidt believes that mobile marketing is set to become the next big thing, referring to it as “the recreation of the Internet”. While this is an intriguing concept for many of us, this is especially true for companies looking to take advantage of new advertising strategies.

The new software, PowerMeter will keep a check on power usage by following it with ‘smart meters’ and convert that information into easily understood statistics which will allow people to check on ways to reduce power use.

Using a widget, which is part of each user’s iGoogle account, people will be able to keep check on their PowerMeter via computer and other internet enabled devices.

A spokesman for Google, Ed Lu, said Google had been trying to get energy company’s to give users greater information about the usage of electricity in their homes.

He said in his Google blog that if everyone had more knowledge of electricity use in their homes, if 50 percent of the US’s home users could cut energy consumption by only 10 per cent it would be the equal of taking more than seven million motor vehicles off the road.

Currently being developed, the new device is undergoing beta testing by people employed by Google before its eventual release to the general public. The device needs access to a new generation power meter, called a ‘smart meter’, which can give more in depth information about energy usage.

Currently, there are more than 40 million of these meters in world usage, with plans by electricity suppliers to release about 100 million extra in coming years, Google said.

Google’s plan was to organise much of the information in the world and make it available and useful. Ed Lu said his company was endeavouring to introduce new methods to provide uses and power companies with real-time power usage information, hoping to bring the US’s mid last century power grid into the 21st century.

He said Google believed that more in depth data on households’ electricity usage belonged to users and should be easily understood by consumers, saying individuals should have control over who gets to study your personal data, and that consumers should have freedom of choice over a much wider range of services to assist in consumer understanding and to reap the benefits of better knowledge.

He pledged to make the PowerMeter available across a wide range of consumers once the bugs were worked out.

The bag easily slides into the neck of a water bottle and was created by scientists at the South Africa Stellenbosch University in order to aid communities that do not have water purification facilities to protect them from impure water and bacteria.

The bags are made out of the same material that tea bags are, but instead of tea materials the bags contain antimicrobial fibres that are not visible to the eye that are able to filter out microbes and contaminants. The bags also contain granules of activated carbon that destroy bacteria. Each nano-fiber is about 1% of a human hair in width.

Marelize Botes, one of the researchers on the project, stated that one sachet has the potential to clean out a litre of water and make it practically the same quality as a bottle of water.

Each bag is only good for one use, after which it should be thrown away and a new bag should be placed into the water bottle. The bags are biodegradable and only take three to four days to disintegrate and the materials packed into the bags are non-toxic.

The South African Bureau of Standards is still testing the filter, but early testing by the research team was successful.

Not out until next year, however NAMCO BANDAI Games Europe kicks the tyres, lights the fires and makes its peace with terra firma for the announcement of ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON, coming 2011 to Xbox 360® and PlayStation®3. Never before has aerial combat been so fast, so in-your-face and so vicious. It’s time to set the sky on fire. And we have a sneak preview for you.

The demanding Project Aces development team at NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. in Japan weren’t satisfied. They wanted more from the series. They wanted planes that tore apart limb from limb right in front of your face, spewing their oil lifeblood across the sky. They wanted to scrape the streets and dodge the steel skyscrapers of real world cities at blistering speeds, in an enthralling war drama that spanned the globe with a web of intrigue. They wanted players to pick up the controller and become deadly combat pilots in seconds, pulling off breathtaking kills at impossible speeds, and doing battle online in a multiplayer sky littered with fiery supersonic debris. What they wanted was steel carnage in the sky.

The result is not a sequel in the multi-million selling smash hit ACE COMBAT series, but a complete rebirth, a phoenix from the ashes flying at three times the speed of sound. The Project Aces team is building ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON from the ground up, with new technology fuelling their passionately realised vision of a game that puts players in the dark heart of the fight like no aerial combat game has done before.

“For us, this is a rebirth of the Ace Combat series, and a chance for us to take the series in a completely new direction,” said Kazutoki Kono, Producer at Project Aces, NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. “We’re confident that we’re going to create a new kind of action shooting (high-speed and destruction) experience with ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON, and we’re pouring passion, vision and skill into making a game like no other. We want to bring players closer than ever to the action so they feel the energy surge through them with every shot fired.”

ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON for Xbox 360® and PlayStation®3 is scheduled to launch across EMEA and Asia Pacific in 2011.

Earlier reports have already hinted at colour options for upcoming models of the Kindle, but the company still claims that the invention of a colour Kindle is still a long way away. The Kindle was the first attempt by Amazon to get into the hardware market, and it turned out to be a great leap given it has the largest share of the eBook market, is still a top selling device, and has helped Amazon launch a book revolution.

The question is that if Amazon could do it once, what is stopping them from trying to do it again. Many people including employees of Amazon are now asking that very question with rumours that product under wraps in the Amazon lab is not a Kindle but something that has similar aspects to the Kindle.

While it is known that a colour version of the Kindle is in the works in the lab, there is a rumour that Amazon may be working no other prototype gadgets as well.

Other sources believe that researchers in the lab are looking at gadgets that could sell well on the market with one source saying that the new product is a ‘means to an end.’ Thus, Amazon may be hard at work that would make getting content over the digital network much easier. Other rumours are that Amazon thought about creating a cell phone or a music player but decided the market is already too competitive for successful entry.

Facebook and cyber social networking sites generally are ever becoming more popular as a way of staying in touch with what your friends are doing, arranging evenings out, and generally chatting, but be warned, here too the ominous computer virus can strike!

Ankit Fadia a renowned ethical hacker and cyber expert has recently warned that with just one wrong click within Facebook, you could be downloading a virus to your computer, instead of looking at someone’s photos, a funny message or something else equally innocuous.

The latest trend of infiltrating computers, it seems, will now be through Facebook. It would also appear that this method began a few months ago, and has been on the increase ever since. This of course in turn means that the number of people whose systems are infected this way is likely to rise.

With one single click, all your contacts will receive a message from your facebook account, your system is infected, and the virus is on its way elsewhere. It all starts with an anonymous e-mail through the Facebook system. If this mail is clicked on, in any Facebook account, a pop up box appears asking permission to download with the options ‘yes’ and ‘no’. If the person clicks yes to this, then all the friends that they have listed on their account will receive the same message while at the same time, the download takes place.

Although this basic passing on of a message like this might seem harmless enough, what it does, is to allow the virus to infiltrate your computer and that of any one or more of your contacts who also click ‘yes’. The download is a trojan virus, and, once a trojan is installed in the computer, the access way is open for cyber criminals to get in there, access your system and hack your passwords, banking, personal details and anything else that you do on your computer.

Older methods of getting viruses onto computers via spam e-mails are still out there, and still need to be watched for, but with social networking becoming more popular with people, the cyber criminals are following suit and utilising this nice easy method of infiltrating computers.

There is a very simple way to avoid getting a virus through Facebook however. So what is this simple solution? Never ever click on the ‘yes’ button to download anything, and never click on any other anonymous messages either. The virus cannot transfer from one system to another without a point of access, and it is the mistake of clicking ‘yes’ which gives it this point of access.
