The new gadget, the Dell Latitude 2100, is aimed at use by school kids and is hard to crack given that not only is it wrapped in rubber to allow the protection that is needed when an expensive gadget is in the hands of kids, but it also is great for adults that need a laptop that is durable for adventure and trekking.

However, on the other hand, the device is also much heavier than traditional netbooks and is much thicker. Add in the fact that it utilizes a six cell battery pack and the base gives the laptop a sideways look.

However, the battery base is not so bad once you open it up and realize that you can use it as a lap table, making it easier to type and much more comfortable on your wrists.

Add in the fact that the keys are raised and the touchpad is plenty spacious and it’s actually kind of fun to use.

In terms of connectivity, the educational netbook offers USB, VGA, microphone jacks, and a headphone jack as well as two USB ports on the other side along with an Ethernet port in the case that you need a bit more space for plug-ons.

Topped off with an activity lit, and you can monitor your child to see if they are working or simply surfing the net.

With notably bizarre advertising slogans like “Crafted to indulge the clawing beasts within”, the Apocalypse range is designed for anyone with a taste for the eccentric.

Apart from the usual goth-shop staples (spiders, skulls, and crosses), the Apocalypse line features dragons, vampires, werewolves, a stylized butterfly, celtic Cross, a tribal treble clef, and the lesser-known “tree of life” symbol.

“Each symbol is custom-made.” said designer C.M.Rogers, “We see a lot of goth and punk apparel on the market, but much of it with an inherent lack of quality. We have taken great care with the design of each symbol to produce meaningful art without the cheap camp of many of the alternatives.”

Although a specific meaning for each symbol is listed on the website, the designer commented that these descriptions are intentionally left as “a nexus for the imagination to draw from”, leaving plenty of room for personal interpretation and meaning.

The new range is released to market for sale now on the i-nique website, with an initial introductory offer of 12% off with the coupon code:sourcewize1

With Valentine’s Day coming soon, answers to queries on “cute Valentine’s day ideas” are used as bait for malware infections.

Statistics show that these key words are very “hot” these days in net searches so it’s no wonder cybercriminals jump to the occasion of getting their own share of the love that roams around. What does this mean? A simple query for “the idea” that will make his/her Valentine the best may lead to malware being downloaded into the users’ systems.

Malware loves traditions, especially when it comes to spreading methods: when users select the link to an apparently legitimate Web site displayed in the search results page, they are automatically redirected to a Web page that contaminates their systems with a fake antivirus, identified by BitDefender as Trojan.Fakeav.YZ.

From then on, Trojan.Fakeav.YZ behaves quite like the other rogue antivirus: the browser window is automatically minimized and a caution message is simultaneously displayed, notifying users about numerous computer infections and recommending that they set up a security solution.

No matter if users click the OK or Cancel buttons of the several pop-up windows appearing on the screen, they will activate a false movie that plays in the restored browser window. This movie reproduces an on-going scanning process that detects plenty of malware on the system, while other fake pop-up windows try to trick the users into downloading the malware.

With each so-called “scan”, more and more notices of false detections place users under the pressure of registering the rogue. Once installed, it modifies the content of several system files and it conveys numerous pop-ups on sham system problems and fake infections, while also persistently asking users to buy or renew a license.

Here is a demonstration of how this “cute gift” behaves:

To protect and avoid compromising your system and data, follow the five security tips below:

• Install and activate a reliable antimalware, firewall solution and spam filter, such as those provided by BitDefender.

• Update your antimalware, firewall and spam filter as frequently as possible, with the latest virus definitions and suspicious application/file signatures.

• Scan your system frequently.

• Regularly download and install the latest security updates and malicious removal tools as well as other patches or fixes released by your operating system provider.

• Do not download or save files from sources you don’t know; run a complete antimalware scan before opening or copying any file to your system, even if the file comes from a trusted source.

For those who want to maximize the impact of calorie burning throughout their day to day activities, there is now a gadget that can tell you how many calories you are burning at any point of the day.

Most of the time people who have the ability to stay thin are attributed to exercise regimes or luck due to high metabolic rates. However, the gadget should help shed some light on how skinny snackers stay thin, while the rest of the population suffers each time they consume a cheese toastie.

The gadget is known as the Ki Fit and is described as the only media monitor on the UK market. It works via a sensor that is highly sensitive and when worn on your upper arm can track the amount of calories that your body burns. Additionally, the device is able to track the efficiency of sleep and the amount of steps that you take in a day.

It also comes with a personal online account that allows you to log your food and drink intake and then compare the amount of calories that you have burnt throughout the day against the amount you have eaten.

The device is simple enough to work as your only task is to place it on your arm and then let it work on its own from there. At the end of the day your task is to plug it into the computer so that it can log the day’s calories while another beeper that fits in your handbag allow you to see at any time how much progress you have made.

In fact, the Internet is already abuzz with pictures of the new gadget and alleged specifications as Apple fans cannot wait to find out more about the new gadget.

However, despite the many rumours surrounding the device it is still not known for sure what the iPad will be, if it will be a tablet, net-book, or an e-reader given the fact that Apple is notorious for staying closed mouth about their gadgets and has done a great job this time.

At the moment, the most accepted theory is that the iPad will come with a wi-fi connection regardless of what its main use is that will allow people to connect to the internet on the go, so that they can download anything from books to music to video.

It is expected that the iPad will be a larger prototype that resembles the iPod that may cost somewhere around £436 if purchased through a mobile broadband provider with a contract.

At the moment, it can be assumed that users would be billed for its usage depending on how much data they download each month. Without a mobile package, there is talk that the price tag may jump up as high as £786.

Also under speculation is what mobile provider will get the rights to distribute the item first, as the iPhone was exclusive to O2 and Carphone Warehouse initially.

The tests were carried out by the Which? Test Lab on behalf of subscribers to the independent reports, published by Great Britain’s leading consumer association.

The small box which is somewhat comparable to a hard drive for mobiles has one terabyte of memory and another one million megabytes on which they can store up to 100 films or 250,000 high quality digital photos.

The signature feature of the N2B1DD1 which was crafted by LG is that unlike other hard drives it can be tapped into from any location across the globe so long as there is internet access.

The amount of opportunities this gives people is endless from parents that want to play DVDs while on holiday to keep their kids happy, to uploading photos for family members while abroad without waiting to travel home.

The gadget is considered a Networked Access Storage device which means that it is a hard drive that works by plugging it into a broadband modem. Thus, everything contained within the hard drive can be accessed from a website, which can be reached with simple access to the internet and of course the password to get into the collection of data.

It also has a Blu-ray rewriter so that films can be stored on the device which also makes it stand out from standard hard drives.

For those that are interested in the N2B1DD1 it costs £275 for the one terabyte model or for twice as much memory around £340, which practically, will make it impossible to fill.

Malware authors are now tampering with these files to make it launch various malicious applications.

Trojan.Clicker.CM ranks second in BitDefender’s top ten e-threats list for November. This is mostly found on websites hosting illegal applications such as cracks, key generators and serial numbers for popular commercial software applications. The Trojan is mostly used to force advertisements inside the users’ browser in order to boost their advertisement revenue.

Ranking third this month is Win32.Worm.Downadup.Gen. The worm relies on the Microsoft Windows Server Service RPC Handling Remote Code Execution Vulnerability (MS08-67) in order to spread on other computers in the local network and restricts users’ access to Windows Update and security vendors’ web pages. Newer variants of the worm also install rogue antivirus applications.

Trojan.Wimad takes the fourth place. The Trojan mostly exploits the capability of ASF files to automatically download the appropriate codec from a remote location in order to deploy infected binary files on the host system.

Exploit.PDF-JS.Gen is a generic detection for specially crafted PDF files which exploit different vulnerabilities found in Adobe PDF Reader’s Javascript engine, in order to execute malicious code on a user’s computer. Upon opening an infected PDF file, a specially crafted Javascript code triggers the download of malicious binaries from remote locations. The threat ranks fifth this month.

Win32.Sality.OG ranks sixth. It is a polymorphic file infector that appends its encrypted code to executable files (.exe and .scr binaries). In order to hide its presence on the infected machine, it deploys a rootkit and attempts to kill antivirus applications installed locally.

Seventh place goes to Trojan.Autorun.AET, a malicious code spreading via the Windows shared folders, as well as through removable storage devices. The Trojan exploits the Autorun feature implemented in Windows for automatically launching applications when an infected storage device is plugged in.

Worm.Autorun.VHG is an Internet /network worm that exploits the Windows MS08-067 vulnerability in order to execute itself remotely using a specially crafted RPC (remote procedure call) package (an approach also used by Win32.Worm.Downadup). The worm ranks eighth in this month’s top ten.

In ninth position, Trojan.Inject.RA is a password-stealing Trojan that mostly targets Lineage II computer players. This specific variant has a key logging component that intercepts users’ keystrokes and sends them to a remote attacker via HTTP or SMTP protocols.

Trojan.Downloader.Bredolab.AZ ranks tenth in this month’s list. Disguised as a Microsoft Word document, the Trojan drops a DLL file and registers it as a Browser Helper Object. Trojan.Downloader.Bredolab.AZ monitors users’ keyboard input via a key logging component and sends the data to a website located in Russia.
