ASUS is going to release a new laptop with plenty to get excited about. The new ASUS U36JC comes fully loaded with the Nvidia GeForce 310M, along with 1GB of DDR3 RAM in a 13.3 Core i5 or i3 notebook.
Dual heat pipe technology keeps the guts of the machine cool and the palm rest doesn’t heat up either. The cover is made of magnesium-aluminium alloy and you have to press really hard on the back of the screen to get any sort of distortion. The display, however, is a bit glossy.
The U36JC has Optimus Technology, which will switch back and forth from Nvidia’s card to Intel’s chip type video, depending on the application. The laptop can be powered with either a four cell or an eight-cell battery.
Connectivity is made possible through one USB 3.0 port, two USB 2.0 ports, a five-in-one card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, and HDMI-out. The unit also has Bluetooth 2.1 and wireless-N Wi-Fi. Security is achieved through password protection and Lo-Jack and Intel anti-theft software.
Engineers designed in thermal technology in order to move away heat from the unit and the finish has a special nanometer coating to make it resistant to fingerprint marking and easier to clean.
The computer is expected to be priced somewhere in the neighbourhood of $1100 USD and pre-order sales are being taken in Taiwan. There is no specific word when ASUS U36JC will be made available on the U.S. or UK markets, but it is certainly headed there.
The unit itself is lightweight and attractive. Its classification is considered to be ultraportable, so it is perfect for the frequent traveller.
