The retail giant Asda launched a new gadget service for trade-ins. Asda Tech Trade-in will accept sat-navs, phones, MP3 players and consoles from portable games and promise to beat the prices of five other services.
Starting in June customers can trade in larger electronic items like tablets, laptops and game consoles. In-store there will be jiffy envelopes available for free. And the service they are offering promises to not be beaten by competitors. They will scan the competitor’s prices in the system and if the client can prove it was not the best price they will reimburse the difference.
Nevertheless consumers may encounter that they can find better prices by selling to others consumers via online auction sites like eBay. Research shows that Britons could be hoarding away in their drawers and cupboards millions of pounds worth of gadgets.
The survey says there could be close to 35m cell phones being used, 11m cameras, 9m PCs and over 5m laptops with over 12m games consoles that are outdated and over a million redundant sat-navs in houses throughout the UK. Just the trade in for mobile phones is thought to be close to or exceeding £700m.
Gadgets that are traded in will either be recycled by firms that specialize in refurbishing or resold. Recycling, refurbishing and repairing the items also helps the country overall to be greener and allows that all the equipment locked up in the drawers in the UK has a useful life and it makes for a bit of extra money for those that have the different gadget either in their closets, drawers or cabinets.
