The LaCie Rugged All Terrain is basically an external hard drive that is perfectly stored in an excellent eye catching and stunning bright orange rubber bumper which would protect the device from shocks. In addition the scratch protected aluminum shell and the colourful orange bumper the hard drive also boasts a straight to the point and no frills design. The LaCie Company states that the maximum drop height of the device is just 35 inches when it in non operating mode. They have also recommended not dropping the hard drive when you are operating it. However, even if your push the device from your desk a few times it would survive the fall and work perfectly as the rubber bumpers would also prevent the edges of the device from denting.

The durability

The LaCie Rugged All Terrain hard drive is available in two versions the USB 2.0 with just the triple interface that includes FireWire 800, FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. All of these interfaces of the device are bus powered which simply means that you do not need any addition AC adapter for the device. However if your USB bus does not offer you the desired power then you can also connect a second USB cable that is provided into the power port of the hard drive. You will actually need two free USB ports in order to connect the second drive. When you test hard drive with just FireWire you will surely come across the results of the drive which are just straightforward.

The device is basically a portable hard drive and the USB 2.0 only holds the capacity of 120GB or 5,400rpm and 80GB whereas the triple interface has the capacity of 120GB, 100GB and 80GB. The cache is nearly 8MB with nearly 100GB capacity of the test unit for the triple interface. The dimensions of the device are 3.5 by 1 by 5.7 inches and weights nearly 8.8 ounces. The notable design of the design of the device features rubber bumper, backup button and scratch resistant aluminum case. Mini USB 2.0 port, FireWire 400 port and FireWire 800 port are some of its other connection options. This hard drive would perfectly support Mac OS 9.x and Mac 10.x including windows 98 SE/2000/Me operating systems. The performance

You will also be very impressed with the performance of Laci Rugged All Terrain hard drive. It is actually the fastest external drives that you ever came across including the products with larger caches and faster drives. When you use the FireWire 400 interface the hard drive would just take nearly 10.5 minutes to write a 10GB folder of mixed files and just about the same time to read back to the same folder.
