Ninja Gaiden is a grand game and no doubt, a infuriating one. In certain aspects, it does improve upon the heart of Ninja Gaiden characteristics to almost hysterical effects. The game is definitely flashier and splatterier with lots of blood flowing around. The game enacts the enhancements in full force and arguably offers some of the best action sequences in the platform. You go around de-limbing werewolves, slicing through rival ninjas and a whole lot of demons with slick and gory executions of the dark ninja art. The decapitated body parts and the blood make for a stunning showpiece as they linger in the air for a second or two before falling to the ground. As to be expected the game stays true to its predecessors and is extremely difficult, this however makes the confrontation all the more enticing and rewarding. Team Ninja has also done some back tracking and has fixed some really annoying issues from the preceding titles. For instance, in the event that you be beaten in a boss battle (and do expect to do it quite regularly) you can easily restart the duel at the commencement of the encounter than having to visit the 10 minutes of lead-in gameplay.

They have also thrown in more save points, more health replenishing, your health will also refill on its own once you are done with the action sequences. Sadly, for every step forward the designers have taken another back. The game is a bit on the slower side if you are to compare it with its older sibling. Visually too the game is a little less impressive than its predecessor .The camera view has taken a turn for the worst, it seems to be more concerned in focusing on the fury of blood and steel gimmicks rather than being functional. The first Ninja Gaiden was tough, but it was never cheap, if you died, it was because you didn’t fight hard enough. With the newer version you have to blame it on the baldy executed camera position and a flurry of other things which makes luck count rather than skill.

The core action is familiar and intense, you play Ryu Hayabusa, a returning hero who must hack, delimb, slash and decapitate your way through a horde of foes that are hell-bent on seeing what your insides look like. The encounters are fast and intensely fierce at times making for a satisfying experience. You have just two attack buttons, along with a jump button, a block button. You have to learn how to learn to land a flurry of punches and kicks in order to beat up your enemies. Each battle is a test of intense determination and patience, and of course how fast your thumb is able to move. The standard combat has been further improved, thanks to whole new level f violent touches, which pumps up the adrenaline to almost hysterical levels. Human combatatants in the game lose their limbs at regular intervals and rather than pleading for mercy, they come back at you with increased angst and rage.
