Enemy Territory: Quake Wars garnered critical for its feverish paced multiplayer action coupled with objective based missions. The console players badly wanted to be a part of the GDF v/s Strogg action and ID turned to Nerve Software and Underground Development to make the Xbox 360 and PS3 ports. However the results were less than palatable, both the console versions looks pale and outdated, especially when set against other console shooters like Rainbow Six Vegas 2 and Call of Duty : Modern Warfare. If you are someone who is not familiar with the Quake series then you will be left dumfounded. Humans are fighting aliens on a planet that looks similar to Earth but don’t know for sure. The last line of defense against the aliens is the Global Defense Force and the events depicted are prequel to Quake II. This paragraph gives more about the plot than the game, so one can imagine how bad it is. Of course you can “Quake” things on your favorite search engine, especially during those annoyingly long load times.
Regardless of whether you choose the GDF or the Strogg, the battle will be on 12 massive maps. Each of the maps boasts of more than a kilometer of varying terrain and structures. The environs vary from jungle, tundrea, city to deserts; all of them have a nice balance of indoor and outdoor areas to suit all kinds of playing styles. You can don the role of five different classes, medics can heal, covert ops can make a silent snipe kill, engineers can construct turrets and field ops have the ability to track targets for missile strikes and missiles hurt real bad. Cooperation is the prime element in the game, in order to win the round you and your team mates must coordinate a well planned attack and defense plan utilizing each of their unique ability at the right moment. Each of the maps in the game will require three objectives to be completed, each one anta time. This ensures that the battle lines will remain pacy and dynamic throughout the game. For instance you may need to blast open an entrance to the enemy base, for which you need an engineer’s laser mine. The engineer is escorted by a heavily armed soldier who clears the path ahead, you may also want a require a medic to tag along to patch up any injuries the engineer may be inflicted. Covert operatives can get on top of the radar tower to take out enemies with their deadly sniper. Finally, the field ops can call in missile strikes on enemy turrets. To this add a crazy mix of giant mechs, vehicles and some attack choppers and you get a dynamite sandbox. This fast paced objective oriented gameplay is the USP of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. The fact that you get to develop and execute a strategy itself is exhilarating. The sad thing is only 16 players can join in this huge a map, this kind of makes the game one dimensional.
