The videogame industry has seen quite a lot of horror games over the last few decades, from the creepy fare of the Silent Hill series to the out right disgusting zombies in the Resident Evil. The upcoming siren: Blood curse is more of a sequel to the PS2 game which was released back in 2004. Gamespot got a hands-on of the game at the recent Sony press event in Los Angeles. The game is set in a creepy Japanese village, believed to have disappeared about thirty years ago. An American television crew is set in to investigate the rumors about the reappearance of the village. The game lets you control various characters as they explore the bleak and deserted village landscape. The zombies are referred to as shibitos in the game and they are outright nasty and disgusting to say the least. These were once human, but have now turned into ferocious undeads, thanks to some curse. The shibitos are more or less resemble the ones you saw in Resident Evil, only they are far more agile, ferocious and has managed to retain their human selves to a greater degree.

You’ll have to deal with a scary set of foes that are hellbent on discovering your insides, the fact that you don’t know the reason for their present state makes it even scarier. The first goal is to sneak your way past a shibitos who is wandering ahead of you. You’ll need a healthy dose of stealth tactics in order to achieve this. You have to crouch by pressing the circle button and move as quietly as possible in order not to be detected by the zombie. The stealth approach may not work to your advantage, sometimes it’s better to go head on with whatever weapon you have in your hands. This may range from a pipe, knife, a scythe or if you are lucky, a gun. During the demo, the player’s character was accompanied by another female character. Though you don’t have direct control over the other character, she does come to your rescue when you are overrun by blood thirsty zombies. To add to the creepy atmosphere, the action sequences are set in a grainy, out of a home video look. This tends to make the game very dark and scary, thankfully you have a flashlight. The game has seven main characters; you will have control over each of them in various levels of the game. Each of the game’s twelve episodes will be released as a separate download. Once the demo part ended, the team were shown a few cutscenes where a little girl was included into the list of main characters. Although what are exact role is remains unclear. The game’s unique feature is that you will be able to share amongst yourself, the sight of enemies and allies. With this feature you will be able to take control over the sight of another character for a short period of time. This looks to be a nifty way to stay out of trouble, especially when things go really bad.
