The game starts off with 50 Cent and the G-Unit performing a concert overseas, at the end of which they realize they have been stiffed by the promoter. In an effort to appease them, the promoter offers a diamond encrusted skull as payment. However, before the gang could bring the prize home it’s stolen by a gang of brutal gangsters. Thus starts the gangster slaying, absolute chaos of a search for their prized bling. The game is developed by Swordfish Studios and they have let out a work in progress edition of the game. The game’s action sequences seem every bit over exaggerated as the insanely over-the-top storyline. Blood on the Sand makes no efforts to hide its arcade stripes with some slick visual effects loaded with hyper-muscled character and oversaturated scenery. As to be expected , 50 Cent is the main character, his partner in crime is player selectable out of the three G-Unit members, Tony Yayo, DJ Who Kid and Lloyd Banks. The character selection is not merely cosmetic as each of the player comes with a different weapon. So you’ll have to choose wisely as it could have immense tactical implications later in the game. 50 Cent’s arsenal includes a pistol, Uzis and rocket launchers. There are around 20 weapons in the game and most of them will have to purchased at an arm’s dealer.
Blood on the Sand is played in third person perspective, and the released levels show 50 Cent and his partner battling the bad guys in a bombed out industrial city somewhere in the middle east. You can snap into covers with the flick of a button, which is pretty handy considering the fact that the game’s AI is pretty strong. With each kill that 50 Cent makes, a meter starts filling up. One it reaches 50 you can activate the Gangster mode the game shifts to slow motion and you put your foes at a sever disadvantage, the mode is basically the bullet time from the Max Payne and Matrix series. As you go around killing baddies and chaining together points and inturn combos, you notice that your score starts rising at an exponential rate. Occasionally some mini objectives pops up, these offer extra point gaining opportunities. It’s not imperative that you complete these side tasks, but they are thrown in to encourage run and kill instead of camping at one place. At the end of every mission, your points are totaled and you will be graded depending on the points made, these will be uploaded onto the online leaderboards. The background score as to be expected is a mix of old and new 50 Cent and G-Unit tracks. The game studios are even contemplating hiring a hip hop producer to render the soundtrack for the game. With a heady mix of rap music, big guns and relentless violence, Swordfish Studios certainly has its intended audience hooked. The game is expected to be released during the late fall of 2008.
