Bluetooth is an industrial specification used for cable less personal area networks (PANs). The system provides the users to connect gadgets together and exchange data between them without the use of cables or wires. The common devices which use the Bluetooth function are mobile phones, personal computers, laptops, digital cameras, printers and video game consoles. The exchange and connection however can be made only over a protected, globally unlicensed radio frequency of very short range. The Bluetooth conditions are built up and licensed by a special interest group known as the Bluetooth Special Interest Group.
The good thing about Bluetooth is that it a communication devise designed for very less power consumption. The Bluetooth can function only in a short range and the two devices that are to be connected must be within the Bluetooth range of each other. The range of the device depends on the cheap transceiver microchips that are placed in each device. They are power-class-dependant and the range would vary from 1 meter, 10 meter, to 100 meters.
Since Bluetooth devices uses radio communication systems for communicating with each other, having a line of sight is not required. The only requirement is that the devices must be within each other’s range. So as long as the transmission signals are strong enough it would not mater even if the devices are separated by a wall.
A Bluetooth hands-free headset is as the name suggests a device which can be used without hands. It is used for various devices like mobile phones without holding it across one’s ears. The device was mainly developed for the convenience of the drivers while they are driving the car. The device would help the driver to use both hand for driving while speaking on the phone. The device has been designed in such a manner that the thing could be clipped onto one’s ears.
The headset however can function only with the help of a phone. To initiate a call a mobile phone must be within the range of the hands-free headset. Earlier the hands free headsets used to come with a wire or cable attached to the mobile phone. But now most of the companies are making the headsets which support Bluetooth to avoid the hassles of cables.
Nowadays as technology is advancing, a Bluetooth handsfree headset is available as a part of the stereo system in most of the expensive automobiles. In the cars the automobile speakers are used to transmit the incoming caller’s voice and then have a microphone embedded in the stereo unit itself. It might also be on the steering wheel. It might also use a different microphone which could be paced anywhere on the car.
