The Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War is arguably one of the most consistent and popular RTS series around. The game lets you command armies of alien Eldar, Space Marines, Chaos Marines and Orks in a brutal sci-fi battle. The third expansion for the series, Soulstorm will be released by the middle of next month. Soulstorm will feature two new races, the Dark Eldar and Sisters of Battle. The Dark elders are basically a highly advanced alien race that looks a bit like twisted elves, and they specialize in torture and enslavement. Not such a good faction to have as your enemy, as you can imagine, especially so when they are capable of mounting a formidable attack.

They are also fairly mobile and hard-hitting and have a tortured slave as the basic construction unit. The slave’s ability lies in the fact that it can move from one construction site to another even before the first one is finished. This means you need only a couple of these guys to quickly build a small base. Player’s will need to concentrate on three resources basically, of which the requisition is of vital importance and is generated when you capture and holds strategic points scattered along the map. Next comes the energy resource, which is generated by building plasma generators.

Soul essence the third and the rarest one is used to power the Dark Eldar’s six special abilities. It can be harvested from the bodies of recently deceased units in the battlefield. Only tortured souls can harvest souls, when you accumulate enough soul essence, you will be able to execute special abilities such as piercing vision which allows a squad to detect any stealth or cloaked units around them. Or you can unleash a corrosive acid cloud that eats away your enemies. However, the most powerful of the abilities will have to be the Soulstorm, which creates an energy vortex that damages both enemies and friends. The Dark Eldar has a plethora of twisted military units at their disposal like the Mandrake Squad, Archon commanders and also vehicles that look like funeral dirges.

The Dark Eldars also get a Tower of Loathing building which is a giant skull with guns attached. The Space Marines gets a new land speeder named Tempest, these are amazingly fast and agile air vehicles that deceptively look as if it’s moving on land. The campaign mission is pretty challenging, but the fact that you don’t have to work against the clock makes it a little less bearable. You’ll have to destroy a space marine base, well that’s fairly normal but this one throws a nasty twist into it. The Space marines have orbital beacons thrown all around the map. This can make things pretty difficult for you as the space marines can call in orbital strike teams at a moments notice. This basically translates into you being attacked from all sides from the word go and also enjoy massive assaults raining on your team every time it tries to secure a new location.
