Samsung has officially confirmed the launch of the stylish “Soul” handset that is all set to crown the Ultra Edition series. Samsung has definitely thrown in some funk into this one, not to mention the fresh contextual visual navigation panel. Soul is a perfect tribute to Sammy’s line of impossibly skinny Ultra series. The “Soul” term seems to be derived from “Spirit Of ULtra”, anyway we are looking at a quad-band GSM phone featuring 7.2 Mbps HSDPA; 2.2 inch QVGA display, 5 mega pixel image stabilized camera that comes with Power LED Flash and face detection; FM radio and MicroSD; Samsung has topped it off with a Magical Touch interface that works by adapting to your music and camera usage, it looks to be a hybrid between the LG Venus’s secondary touchscreen and the Motorola E8’s morphing keypad.
It even features a mishmashes Google icon for rendering easy search and gmail access. The Soul will be unveiled at the 2008 Mobile Congress which begins on the 11th of this month in Barcelona. The headset marks the end of the popular Ultra series headsets, however unlike the prior handsets in the series like the D900 and U600; the Soul features a high tech navigation control interface that morphs according to the user’s habitual usage. For instance, when the Soul is in camera mode, the navigation bar displays functions like zooming depending on your prior usage pattern. It also changes your icons and functions across application thus allowing extreme ease of use and seamless access. Speaking of which, the camera in the device looks pretty impressive, the 5 mega pixel camera not only auto focuses but also face detects, allows QVGA resolution video recording and provide flawless image stabilization. There’s also this something that Samsung calls WDR or wide dynamic range.
The Soul also features a plethora of other multimedia functions such as a music player that supports MP3/WAV/WMA with music library navigation. The audio quality is expected to be top of the line with no distortions even at the higher volumes thanks to Bang & Olufsen’s ICEpower technology, built-in FM, and also another cool feature to allow the users to create themes on the phone itself. The customizable graphic interface lets you create your own skins with the User Created Skin setup. Besides you can customize fonts, colors and background images. The 2.2” QVGA display is capable of rendering 16 million shades to display the best possible images. All of this is crammed into this 12.9mm thin stunner of a headset. Seriously, this one makes the N95 look like a bloated pig. The Soul has a MicroSD slot onboard but the built-in memory is still unknown. The Soul measures 106mm x 50mm and features mobile blogging software and RSS reader in addition to Google mail. The Soul should start hitting the European store shelves by April end this year, though Samsung seems to be planning a massive global PR campaign for the phone which indicates that the Soul will make to other markets as well.
