The O2 have always been renowned for coming up with cutting edge innovation over the years. About a year ago, O2 released what was arguably the best XDA phone ever, the XDA Orbit. Despite being plagued by some shortcomings such as an annoyingly fast track ball and a relatively slow operational speed the unit became a bestseller of sorts. O2 has recently launched the replacement for the orbit which has been creatively named the XDA Orbit 2. The device is based on the generic HTC design, but features an O2 designed housing much like the original Orbit. This is a classy blend of HTC technology and O2 style serves to produce an elegant and attractive machine.
The Orbit 2 features a whole new level of features including a 3 mega pixel camera, fast processor and larger RAM/ROM, Touch interface, GPS and Quad band. As expected O2 are back with another stunner of a product, whether it follows up on the success of its predecessor or will it disappoint, just will have to wait and see. The Orbit 2 scores major points with its large memory (ROM: 256 MB: 128 MB SDRAM), and an amazingly fast processor (Qualcomm MSM 7200 400 MHz). These two have the greatest effect on the working of the machine. The Qualcomm 400 MHz processor is approximately 50-60% faster than the corresponding 400 MHz Samsung chip which the previous Orbit used.
This makes for a noticeable swiftness while using the device. The headset that comes with the Orbit 2 is exactly same as the one supplied with the XDA Stellar, which is a major improvement over those offered with the previous XDA models. The earphone sports a 3.5mm jack plug, foam padded stereo earplugs and a sliding spacing bar which lets you control the spreading of the wires. The fact that it uses 3.5mm jack allows you to replace it as more expensive third party model headphones in the market. Probably the most important aspect of hardware is the screen. The Orbit features a sharp and clear screen that renders good color and contrast balance, thankfully without any of the brightness issue that plagued the Stellar.
The screen is touted to be usable in almost any type of lightning conditions, even bright winter sunlight. The touch screen is coated with ant-glare material as a result even if it has a glossy surface it does not interfere with the screen readability. The Orbit 2 is based on the HTC platform and features the fast yet low power consuming Qualcomm 7200 processor; this ensures that you get a good battery life. The memory has improved the Orbit 2 sports 120Mb of storage memory and 101Mb of program memory. This gives ample memory for running larger applications, besides you can also create room internally for allowing the loading of ‘critical’ application that you may want to hold in the internal memory. The Orbit 2 is SD 2.0 / SDHC compatible and supports cards up to a maximum of 8 GB.
