Apple has launched the MacBook Air, which seemingly, is the world’s thinnest notebook. The notebook is basically a modified version of Apple’s lightweight MacBook. The MacBook Air is the thinnest notebook in the world, at least as of now. The notebook measures only 0.76 inch, which is almost 1.94 centimeters and weighs around 1.36 kgs or 3 lbs. This means that it is also lighter than the previous version of the MacBook which weighed approximately 2 kgs.
The Apple MacBook Air has been packaged pretty well and looks great. The notebook features an Intel core 2 Duo processor of 1.6 GHz and a PATA hard disk drive of 80 GB. Apart from this, the notebook has a memory of 2 GB. The MacBook Air features a widescreen display of about 13.3 inches and a keyboard with backlighting that has the MacBook style to it. Besides, the track pad on the notebook is similar to that of the iPhone, and has a multi – touch feature. The WI FI on the notebook is that of 802.11n and the notebook also features Bluetooth 2.1+. The notebook has specially been designed to give its users a 5 hour battery life.
Thus, the notebook would be a great buy for all those who keep travelling, since it is light in weight and also renders a great battery life.
However, one of the negative features of the notebook, is the fact that Apple has done away with the optical drive, to achieve the thinness on the notebook. This means that if you are someone who needs to use the optical drive a little too often, you might just find it a little too inconvenient to use the notebook.
However, there are several other alternatives that Apple has in the offering, to make up for the lack of an optical drive. For instance, there is the Remote Disc feature that Apple has to offer. This is basically software that shares the optical drive from another Mac or any PC. All you would have to do is install the software on your MacBook Air. Another alternative Apple has to offer is an external SuperDrive that you would have to purchase with the MacBook Air. The external super drive would cost almost $100.
Apple also offers a high end MacBook Air model. This model has a much better Intel core 2 Duo processor of 1.8 GHz. The high end model would also feature a solid – stave drive of 64 GB instead of the usual disk drive.
Besides, the MacBook Air looks quite good as well. The notebook is compact and is perfect for travellers and marketing executives. With the Apple logo and several other features, the notebook would prove to be a decent buy. The notebook has been priced at $ 1,799, which is not too expensive considering the other notebooks offering similar features that are available in the market. However, the high end model of the MacBook Air is available for $ 3,098.
